When I lived in California, I learned to dance from champion instructors, which gave me a strong foundation in movement, form, and timing. When I later became a photographer, I quickly discovered how valuable that understanding was behind the camera. I know how movement develops and when to press the shutter.
I’ve since photographed everything from live performances and individual dancers to promotional and editorial work.
Ballet often comes down to fractions of a second: the height of an extension, the peak of a jump, or the instant a movement reaches its fullest expression. I photograph with those details in mind, anticipating rather than reacting so the finished image feels as intentional as the movement itself.
Live performance requires more than anticipating a dancer’s movement. I’m also watching the stage, lighting, choreography, and relationships between performers to create photographs that capture both individual moments and the scale and energy of the production.
From promotional and editorial images to personal portraits, I create photographs that present dancers as individuals rather than simply performers. Each session is approached differently, with lighting, location, styling, and direction shaped around the person and how they want to be seen.
Photographing dancers requires more than freezing movement at the right instant. I’m paying attention to timing, balance, expression, and how one movement leads into the next so I can anticipate the photograph rather than chase it.
I also understand how much work goes into making something difficult look effortless. That affects the moments I choose, the direction I give during portraits, and the care I take in presenting movement at its strongest.
I bring that understanding together with years of experience in professional lighting, portraiture, live events, and challenging environments to create dance photographs that are both technically precise and visually expressive.
