Service. Precision. Honor.
I served as a U.S. Navy Corpsman with 1st Marine Division, and that experience has stayed with me throughout my career as a photographer. For years, I’ve worked with servicemembers, military families, and organizations throughout the Washington, D.C. area, photographing everything from formal ceremonies and official events to portraits and the quieter moments surrounding them.
My service gave me an understanding of the traditions, professionalism, and attention to detail these assignments require. I know when something is about to happen, when discretion matters, and why getting the details right is about more than making a good photograph.
rom retirements and promotions to formal ceremonies, receptions, conferences, and official functions, I photograph military events with an understanding of both the moments that matter and the protocol surrounding them. I work attentively without becoming part of the event, creating a complete record of the people, traditions, and details that brought everyone together.
Military ceremonies are built around details, traditions, and moments that happen only once. Familiarity matters. I anticipate the sequence of events so I can be in position before the important moments happen rather than reacting after they begin.
Whether I have a few minutes during an event or time for a dedicated portrait, I approach servicemembers as individuals rather than uniforms. I use intentional light, clear direction, and the environment to create photographs that feel polished and dignified without becoming stiff.
Before I became a professional photographer, I served as a U.S. Navy Corpsman with 1st Marine Division. I’ve now spent more than a decade behind the camera, including years photographing servicemembers, military families, ceremonies, and events throughout the Washington, D.C. area.
My career has also taken me into some unusually demanding environments, including four years as a staff photographer for NASA and more than three years photographing events for National Geographic. That experience taught me to work quickly, solve problems without disrupting what’s happening around me, and consistently deliver professional work regardless of the conditions.
Military photography brings those two parts of my life together. I understand the significance behind what I’m photographing, and I have the experience to photograph it well.
